Today is the anniversary of Joseph Smith’s birth. It is also close to Christmas
Two hundred six years old today;
Of Joseph Smith, what can I say?
When he had questions about God
He did what others found quite odd:
’Twas God he asked, and God replied.
Two centuries past, and still I find
When “gospel questions” come to mind
Debate and reason play their part
But few will open up their heart
To see if God will take their side.
I marvel that Romans, with preaching in mind,
Effected the change to the culture we find;
They altered the Yuletide, its blood and its ale,
To celebrate Christ and his odd birthing tale.
To reform a whole culture without much distress,
To absorb, not replace, is the road to success.
