A sonnet for CS1.
I TA a section of CS1 designed and taught by Jim Cohoon which has, as it’s first assignment, education “Write and submit for the first day of class, a haiku or sonnet about your class expectations or concerns.” What follows was my offering from last year.
There dawns upon my weary mind anew
A thought upon which I in fear must stare;
For though I wot this feeling never shew,
A phobia of silicon is there!
How can it be that digitation molds
Crude slavery, that ever awful vice,
Into a thing that everyone upholds:
Indeed that even I regard as nice?
’Twas Aristotle’s Politic that posed
A slave must be where e’er a people thrive.
That postulate remains, as I suppose:
We now used slaves of circuits, ne’er alive!
And so through study I do soon expect
To learn a language circuit-slaves respect.
