We all know myths are false; we couldn’t stand not knowing that.
“The game,” he said, “has simple rules;
this piece is fast, this one wins duels;
the land’s a grid, all moves are straight,
The goal’s to be the first to eight.”
I looked at him, this Odin-Zeus,
I looked long at the “board”;
I looked at people moving there,
heard prays to this strange lord.
“It’s not a game,” I said at last,
“Those ‘pieces’ are alive!”
Said he, “Oh look, this one’s so fast
’Twill very soon arrive!”
I woke in sweat, to knees did fall
And prayed that god’s not god of all
