Some believe that the purpose of war is to give war-like people opponents who fight back.
I’m not personally persuaded by this view, but it makes a good topic for verse.
The moment arrives: heroes arrayed for the fray, knowing today is the day, stare down the foes in their way. The enemy strives, knowing their cause isn’t right, yet with a heart for the fight, seeking the triumph of might. Both sides agree: heroes on their side must face monsters who evilly place greed o’er the whole human race. Neither can flee: those who withdraw from the war doom all the weak and the poor: slaves to the strong evermore.
