A thought on the history of the British Isles.
It is worth reminding my reader that I make rhymes for fun, not for educational purposes, and am none too constrained by facts in what I write.
The Norman conquerors (from France)
Upon the Saxons took a chance
And let them live with freedoms (some),
A choice some people thought was dumb.
The Saxons did not treat the Pict
With such aplomb, but to evict
The “savage race” most keenly sought—
A mission doomed, a foolish thought.
Instead, like Normandy in style,
The viking Cínaed fought a while
And then his sons helped Alba’s rise
All soft and slow, with no surprise.
Thus they from Pictish parents bred
A Scottish race that left Pict dead.
