Many sun deities and a vampire.
Each day before sunrise she climbs to a high eastern face;
She spreads wide her arms as the first rays of Sun reach that place
That Helios, Ravi, and Dagr; that Ao and Sól
May brighten the shadows that dwell in the place of her soul.
She was a sun-child, the chosen of Ra, so they said—
Until with a bite some cursed vampire rendered her dead.
To die by a vampire isn’t to die right at all.
In proper death, spirit will rise and the flesh to dirt fall;
But if by a vampire, all of it gets turned around
And flesh comes to life as the soul is interred in the ground.
Malakbel normally burns these creations on sight
As surely as ever his rays spell the end of each night…
But she was a sun-child; Nanauatzin dwelt in her heart
And Hors could not kill one who’d worshiped him right from the start.
So each day at sunrise she smiles in her god’s deadly rays
And plans out some actions she hopes will earn Aryaman’s praise.
