X marks the spot to make one happy.
A “here be dragons” on a map
gives purpose without cause.
It says “go here and you’re a sap”,
the reason: fiction-claws.
“X marks the spot”, the dragon’s pair:
objective sans reward.
These two give maps a purpose where
description would be hard.
“Desirable to make one happy”
is a prophet’s phrase
And, like most prophets’ words, it’s mappy,
an X in many ways.
But it says more than any X;
mere gold may leave one sad.
When God’s the one who writes the checks
they’re sure to make you glad.
