Friday Poem

By anonymous request, a poem about swords and pens

Untitled Sonnet

Who said the sword is not as strong as pen?
Some holder of a pen with stunted sight.
Had they in sword-fights ever even been?
Had they, they’d know the sword wins every fight!
Or maybe ’twas a scribe with cunning lord
Who wished his foes to shed the blade and gun
That in next battle, his the only sword,
The conquest might most easily be won.
If sword wants pen to cease, a clumsy slice
Can leave a writer dead upon the ground;
While pacifists, who write with skill quite nice,
Have never words to quell the violence found.
    Yet still we see, the rulers of the land
    Are demagogues who rule with pen in hand.
