Reflections on light, and reflections of light on shadow.
In summer it can seem like days Last every waking hour; The sunshine on the world stays And darkness has no power. Yet even when the world glows And merriness unbounded flows, When goodness stays and badness goes, Each person casts a shadow. Until we like our God can find A way to shed light with our mind, Each ray of light’s with shadow signed. It’s not a problem, though For light around us lifts our hearts; Reflected light can flow And shed light where the shadow starts.
In darkness of the truest kind One cannot see at all; There not a photon can one find It seems a light-proof pall. Yet even darkness most profound Cannot a simple match confound. In light v. dark, it’s ever found The loser is the shadow. The darkness is no more than “not” Not yet, not now, not in this spot; But if you glow, it has no shot. Dark frightens and pervades Yet cannot even beat a flower; The light it ne’er invades For darkness is the lack of power.
