About Me

I strive to be an engaging, adaptable, and enthusiastic teacher who cares deeply about improving the quality of an inclusive culture in higher learning. In August 2018, I joined the Computer Science Department at the Univeristy of Virginia as an Assistant Professor, Academic General Faculty on a teaching track. Before that, I've taught computer science courses at UNC Charlotte over 4 years to a total of 1,458 students. Upon reflection on my teaching, I recognize one of my greatest strengths lies in my ability to connect and inspire students. By sharing my passion for learning and serving others, I strive to make learning an engaging and inspiring experience for students.

My research interests include biomedical image analysis, machine learning, and computer science education. My goal is to reinvent instructional activities as adaptive and engaging by incorporating art and music elements to help everyone to learn coding. In the upcoming years, I intend to extend the foundation on which my past and current research contributions have laid to explore new aspects of machine learning in education.

I am able to communicate effectively with people from all walks of life because I appreciate, embrace, and support diversity. I want to advocate for underrepresented groups to prepare students to uphold the ethical principles of a thriving and inclusive society.
